The Challenge
In order to continue its important work as a catalyst for learning, research, collaboration and creativity, the center faced the critical need to integrate its two buildings—one existing and one new. The two facilities had to be upgraded with state-of-the-art technologies that “talked to” each other.
The renovation and retrofit of one of the oldest buildings on campus into a laboratory facility with the capability to support advanced, large research projects was particularly challenging. In addition, varying move-in schedules from different users had to be accommodated. It was mission-critical to have a structured cabling design and install that could accommodate multiple IT concerns and ensure that each lab, training room, and program-related space could deploy the systems and services necessary for students, faculty, visitors, and researchers.
Collaborative Approach
Aptitude began by coordinating collaborative workshops with key stakeholders—university administrators, architects, department and program heads, and technology vendors to determine project goals, requirements, and challenges. The Aptitude team came up with several innovative solutions for the retrofitting of the existing building, layering them into the infrastructure seamlessly.
The Results
Through careful attention to detail and custom-tailored data cabling and outside plant infrastructure, the critical access control and A/V systems were integrated flawlessly into rooms and spaces.
The University of Colorado Boulder now has a sustainability flagship in SEEC where the brightest students, educators, government researchers, and industry experts can collaborate and inspire each other to produce the most cutting-edge research and next generation discovery in sustainability.
